An enormous infrastructure and financing network is being built around expectations of OpenAI’s continued growth. Oracle, SoftBank, CoreWeave, Nvidia, data-center developers, banks and private-credit investors are committing insane amounts of capital to AI infrastructure. Much of the resulting debt does NOT necessarily sit on OpenAI’s own balance sheet. If OpenAI materially misses the growth assumptions underlying those contracts or the IPO gets postponed indefinitely, the consequences don’t necessarily stop with OpenAI. They will move outward through companies that borrowed and invested billions of dollars to satisfy the expected demand.
