Claude Code vs Codex: I Made Them Build the Same App (Fable 5 vs GPT-5.6 Sol)

Claude Code vs Codex: build the same app, same DESIGN.md file, same SocialCrawl skill, and the same one-shot prompt.

In this video, I put Claude Code with Fable 5 against Codex with GPT-5.6 xhigh by asking both agents to build the exact same product: an AI-powered Instagram competitor research dashboard.

I wanted to see whether these agents could independently build a real product.

Timestamp:
[00:00] Introduction: Overview of the experiment comparing Claude Code (Fable 5) and Codex (GPT-5.6 Sol).

[01:57] The Setup: Defining the task to build a social media dashboard, and preparing the design file and prompts.

[05:06] Testing Claude Code: Running the prompt with Fable 5, reviewing the generated dashboard, and analyzing its cost/usage stats.

[08:04] Testing Codex: Running the identical prompt with GPT-5.6 Sol, reviewing its dashboard, and analyzing its cost/usage stats.

[10:55] Side-by-Side Comparison: Comparing the UI and noticing small differences (e.g., Claude took more initiative on scraping details than Codex).

[12:53] Final Stats Breakdown: A direct comparison of time spent, token usage, and total costs ($33 for Fable vs $12 for GPT-5.6).

[13:41] Conclusion: Final thoughts

Claude Fable 5 was more proactive and paid attention to product details I hadn’t explicitly requested. Codex with GPT-5.6 was significantly more economical, gave me much more usable capacity, and still produced a powerful, functional dashboard.

🚨 UPDATE: Claude Fable 5 access on paid plans has now been extended through July 19, 2026.
